Negro kept their season alive in emphatic fashion Sunday night, routing Verde 5-1 to clinch third place and a semifinal berth in the final regular season game of Season 6. The win eliminates Verde in fourth and sets up a Blanco-Negro semifinal for the right to face Azul in the final.
Claudio Espinosa broke the ice just 50 seconds into the first period, beating Emmanuel Santiago to give Negro the early advantage. The second period was where the game was truly won. Alonso Carriles picked up a Weebo Gómez feed and doubled the lead at 6:50, and Mateo Durán added a third midway through the frame — finishing off a setup from Marcelo Alcocer and Espinosa — to put the game well out of reach. Adrián Contreras provided Verde's only bright spot, scoring a sharp individual effort off Eddie Ramos and Joshua Gutierrez with just 15 seconds left in the period, but it only trimmed the deficit to 3-1.
Carriles turned the third into a personal showcase. He converted twice more off Gómez passes — at 5:20 and 2:50 — to complete the hat trick, his third career in just two Sunday Night editions. Behind every finish was Weebo Gómez, who capped a brilliant 3-assist night by reaching 50 career points — a milestone for the five-edition veteran and former champion. Also pushed him past 25 career assists, with both milestones coming in the same game. Espinosa also picked up a pair of assists to reach 10 career assists on the night.
Iñaki García was exceptional between the pipes, stopping 26 of 27 shots for a 96.3% save percentage — his best performance of the edition and exactly what Negro needed in a must-win game. Emmanuel Santiago faced 29 shots for Verde and had little support in a tough night. With the regular season complete, Negro finishes third at 7 points and enters the playoff with momentum: Carriles leads Sunday Night with 9 goals, and his 4-game goal and point streaks make him one of the most dangerous players in the competition heading into the semifinal.
